Print is dead…long live print we say.

There’s nothing better than a good book, we love the smell and touch of them, but like everything technology is taking over, but this means we’ve get to rediscover the book all over again in the digital era.

Digital handheld mobile devices has really been driving the growth of digital media over the past few years, none more than the Apple iPad and the Amazon Kindle. Digital publishing allows those who use it the ability to provide an outlet for their media without the hassle and  cost of print production, the logistics of distribution and the worry of over/under production to meet consumer need.

Digital Media also allows companies to test the water with magazine and book concepts without huge cost if it fails before making the transition to full print runs.

In late January 2011, Amazon announced that digital books were outselling their traditional print counterparts for the first time ever on its site, with an average of 115 Kindle editions being sold for every 100 paperback editions. Amazon Kindle books are great for text rich books with little requirement for graphics.

The apple iPad and iPhone, since 2010 has offered the “ibook’s” service, an interactive bookshelf within the device that allows for not only text rich books, but also fully interactive media productions and digital publications to be delivered to the user, the ipad is a fantastic platform to deliver publications such as magazines to a more technology media savvy audience who are looking to consume their print on the go when they want it.
